Matthias Smith is the founder and owner of Pioneer Capital Advisory LLC, a boutique commercial loan brokerage firm that specializes in guiding business buyers through both SBA 7(a) and non-SBA acquisition financing. He founded the firm in May 2022 after spending more than seven years working for four SBA lenders, including Live Oak Bank and Byline Bank, where he developed a deep understanding of the credit, underwriting, and closing processes that drive successful acquisition outcomes.

Since its launch, Pioneer Capital Advisory has advised more than 115 acquisition entrepreneurs and facilitated the closing of over $255 million in SBA 7(a) financing. In 2025 alone, the firm has supported buyers in securing more than $105 million in closed SBA 7(a) loans. The firm also assists qualified buyers with obtaining financial letters of support, enabling them to present stronger offers in competitive acquisition environments.

Matthias leads a highly experienced team that includes a Chief Operating Officer with over a decade of SBA lending experience, a sales organization focused on helping clients understand SBA eligibility and structure, an analyst team responsible for preparing lender-ready financing packages, and a Head of Closing Operations who manages the underwriting to closing process and guides clients through the detailed requirements of pre-closing preparation. The firm also has a team member dedicated to fulfillment for independent sponsor and non-SBA financing engagements.

In addition to his advisory work, Matthias has been quoted in Forbes three times in 2025 for his expertise in SBA financing and the business acquisition landscape. He lives in Wisconsin and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
